Riga will host an artist talk by Magnum photographer Antoine D’Agata (France, 1961). The photographer studied at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York, where his teachers included Larry Clark and Nan Goldin, and he has developed his own unique style in the genre of social documentary. D’Agata is a permanent wanderer, creating a documentary narrative of existential self-searching, while revealing the expressions of decadence in today’s society – addiction, prostitution, violence. Living in the particular moment is vital for the photographer, and his spontaneous snapshots, depicting dynamic body shapes, remind us of the artist’s own participation. The photographer’s work, including “Anticorps”, winner of the Rencontres d'Arles 2013 Author Book Award, incites debate due to its taboo themes and snapshot aesthetics. However, the artist keeps following his convictions. “It's not how a photographer looks at the world that is important. It's their intimate relationship with it. ”
Organized by Riga Photomonth in collaboration with Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation's Art festival „Tête-à-Tête 2014”
