Renowned Swedish photographer JH Engström (1969) will give an artist talk in Riga. Although the photographer was born in Sweden, his creative development was highly influenced by moving to Paris at an early age. Engström’s work is based on an autobiographical message, created in the form of a documentary diary. In his images, human nature is shown in its natural and imperfect state, and this is echoed in their formal execution. The artist uses the construction of photo stories in his work, attaching great importance to the sequence and layout of images. Engström has collaborated with Anders Petersen, and their publication “From Back Home” received the Author Book Award at Rencontres d'Arles 2009. Throughout his career, the photographer has created 15 unique photobooks.

Organized by Riga Photomonth in collaboration with Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation's Art festival „Tête-à-Tête 2014”
