The collaboration projects “Neighbours” (Riga, Latvia) and VODA (Umea, Sweden) have a theme in common – “us and them” – but the conceptual and contextual development of the idea has been different. The participants of “Neighbours” tried to find and highlight the locally specific and unique atmosphere of various neighbourhoods of Riga, looking for the similarities and differences between neighbours and getting to know each other better.
The VODA project has two main conceptual concerns – the world through the eyes of a photographer vs. the eyes of the hero of the story. Both sides are involved in the creative process, trying to answer the question: who represents whom, and how are contemporary realities of the world reflected?
Using the means of expression of documentary photography, lesser-known sides/phenomena of today are shown. This encourages a more nuanced perception and perspective on today’s city and the lives of those around us.
VODA participants: Elin Berge, David Dahlberg, Alexandra A. Ellis, Malin Grönborg, Johan Gunséus, Sara Lindquist, Linda Thompson and Lars Öberg.
Curated by Inga Brūvere(Latvia)
Organized by "Riga photomonth"  in collaboration with Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation's Art festival "Tête-à-Tête 2014"
